Summary-
Finny now helpless because he has to use a can has to sit on the sidelines of a game of snowball fighting. The whole chapter really has alot going on especially Gene and Finny since they are seniors, they have to apply for some type of force in the army, But Gene decides not to go into the enlisting Brinker then notices this and tells Gene that he is doing this because Gene pitys him. Finny is in denial that he actually does pity Finny, but then Brinker gives some important advice; to just forget about the whole thing and go on with their lives. He claims that if he stays that way Finny will begin to pitty himself and soon become aware of everything that happened to him and he will become upset. During the night Brinker took the boys to the auditorium and began to investigate them. Brinker interviewed Finny and asked all the questions about how he fell out of the tree and why he did so. They begin to get really mean and Finny gets agrivated. When they take Leper to the stage Finny can't take it so he ran out with tears in his eyes. Then Bam! All you could hear was Finny falling down the stairs. The Doctor states that Finny broke his leg but not as badly as before, so that was somewhat good news. Finny is mad at Gene and so Gene didn't go into the patients room so he left after apoligizing. After Finny cools down Gene and him have a deep conversation about the month of the crash. Finny begins to cry about that day ans wants to know why Gene did such a thing, but Gene says that he didn't intentionally do it, so they go back as friends. Yay! Its that time of year. Graduation of the Seniors ! The book ended with the conclusion that he never killed anyone in the military and he really only killed his enemy at the school. Then he says that Finny couldn't go to war at all.
Quote-
"what i mean is it wouldn't do any harmn , you know if everything Finny's accident was cleared up and forgotten."( Knowles 160).
Reactrion-
During these last chapters I felt a sense of sympathy for Finny. I really felt bad I mean he was a big shot, more like a jock in these days, but he never actually hurt anyone he was really nice and it made him seem like a saint. H e broke his leg twice and that really took the story in a twist, the poor kid was already limping then he feel down the stairs I mean that is really tragic. Although from this story I mostly got the fact that Finny and Gene had a really close realtionship. It made it seems as if they were brothers doing everyhting and that was really touvhing in the story.

A Separate Peace page 122-153
Summary-
Gene is happy that Finnny is back, he is glad that Finny is training with him, but he still doesn't get the war, and he just wants peace. They are preparing for the olypics. Finny was keeping Gene from all the friends that he made when he was gone. So I think that kind of irritates Gene a little bit, but yet finds peace when he practices with Finny. For fun Finny wants to have a winter carnival so they start to plan it. Gene visits Leper for Christmas in Vernont. Leper tells Gene that he doesn't want to go to the army. It seems as Leper actually had some doubt in the war too. But Gene gets too scared and he runs away, leaving Leper alone.
Quote-
What deceived me was my own happiness;for peace is indivisible, and the surrounding world confusion found no reflection inside me." ( Knowles 123)
Reaction-
I find that in these pages that Gene has grown up and has a little more sense in him. He feels that he wants more peace. It also seems that before he really didn't have any goals he just fooled around with Finny but know he is training for the olypics and also wants to be the head of his class. These pages explain so much of Finny and Gene's growth in the year. It is almost chocking of how fast they grew.

Summary-
As the school year begins, Gene is a senior. He tries out for assistant manager for crew, getting the role, but welcoming him to the team was a little strange because one of the teammates actually insults Gene, he couldn't take the insult and so he fight him. Going to his dorm all soaked in water because he fell in the river, he meets up with his dorm advisor, who tells him he has a long distant call in his office. So going to the office and getting on the phone he hears his best friends voice, Finny. Boy, was he glad to hear his voice but yet surprised that Finny is still talking to him, since the accident. Finny asked about the first day, and seemed very happy to hear from him. It is expected that he is to return to school soon. Although Finny was very disappointed that Gene is assistent manager instead of actually being a rower on the team, saying that he actually has to play sports for his sake. During the winter Gene enlisted in becoming a soldier for the war earlier but he was shocked to find Finny in there room, for it was the first time that he is back since the accident. As usual Finny makes a joke out of everything, but Gene tells Finny about his idea about elisting in the army early but by the looks of Finny he tells that Finny doesn't want him to leave so he just puts that thought to the side. They made an agreement that Finny will train Gene, while Gene will tutor Finny in all his classes. Surprised they are making commence progress.
Quote-
" Listen pal, if I can't play sports, your going to have to play them for me." (Knowles 85)
Reaction-
The reason I picked this quote was because I felt sypathetic for Finny. I felt the love that Finny has for Gene. I felt that they were brothers instead of friends, it was a moment of tears, for I could imagine him saying it in a serious way to get Gene in for the sport. I felt that these past couple of Chapters have been a little dull because Finny isn't with Gene doing any spontaneosly amazing new things. I felt as if without Finny Gene can't really be complete. Although I saw the loyalty that they both have for each other and that is why this story has appealed to me in such a great way.

A Separate Peace pages 33-71
Summary-
As Gene begins to remember the days in Devon High, he recalls when Finny saved his life when they climbed the tree a second time, where Gene lost his balance but then Finny caught his hand. As the summer went on the Summer Suicide Society of the Summer Session started and it was everyday. Finny not knowing that Gene didn't really feel like going to the Sessions everyday, was pushed to. He was getting more and more tense everyday, about the situation and he just kept his mouth shut. One day before the Summer Session, Finny found a ball, he began to make up a name for the ball and made a game that the boys later on called Blitzball, the game was very similar to today's game of football. As they play the game Gene of course notices that Finny never gets tire; he says that he has the same level of energy all through out the day. Gene constantly admires Finny for his good athletics and his good features, stating that people stare at him in admiration. One day Finny even broke the school record for the 100 yard in swimming but only Gene knew about that because Finny didn't want anybody else to know. As days go by doing most of the same things over again like climbing the tree and jumping out and playing blitzball, one day a tragedy hit. Finny was on the tree and so was Gene when Finny lost his balance and then he feel in the river with a bad hit. He was in the school hospital for quite some time and now he can't play sports.
Quote-
"Finny would shine with everyone, he attracted everyone he met. I was glad of that too. Naturally. He was my roommate and my best friend. (Knowles40)
Reaction-
This quote actually shows that Gene is thankful that he has a friend so admired. He feels so proud that such a person picked him as a best friend. It also shows that this character is week. He never congratulates himself on any of his achievements. He always talks about Finny, Finny is the one always pushing him to do bold things and he never says no even though he wants to. Gene is a follower, and I think this is because he doesn't want to hurt his best friend. In the story I notice alot of similes and metaphors take place in the story. I feel that when the author does that it spices up the story.

Summary -
The narrator of the story is Gene Forrester. He returns to his own school fifteens years later, becoming familiar with the place. He begins to realize that he sees it in a different perspective then he did when he actually went to Davon School. He talks about the big foot-ball, baseball and soccer fields. He also remembers the tree where , Finny and a couple of other friends went to a tree located near a lake, and they wanted to jump of one of the branches into the water, so Finny goes first and then goes Gene, but the others actually refuse to go after. It seemed as if he was a little hesitant at first but then when Finny yelled at him and pretty much commanded him to get into the water he jumps right in. It shows as if his charcter is the ty pe who needs to be motivated to fufill something. Finny, Gene's best friend, seems as if he ius a very persuasive person. As he remembers the time where Finnny, actually gets himself out of getting introuble with the subsitute headmaster. As he was wearing his tie as a belt. Finny and Gene make a packed called the Super Suicide Society of Summer Sessions".
Quote-
" I was taller, bigger generally in relationto these stairs. I had more money and success and 'security' than in the days when specters seemed to go up and down them with me." ( Knowles12) .
Reaction-
This quote is such a good way to start of the chapter. It just flatly tells you that this is a coming of age story, where we the readers analyse his life frowing up in World WarrII. So far I have caught so much metaphors and similies, describing objects like the tree and even describing himself. I see that this character is such a strong character, especially living during World War II.

Other then that there is nothig much to right since all that he rights is baout he is struggling with his fight as a single father. He still talks to Cec in public outloud having effective conversations, about Maddie's progress in speech and her actions. She gets cutier and cutier every night, saying things like "Daddy sad, i make boobo go away." theswe things just make his day. But nothing really happened this section of the book.
Quote-
"Hold tight to those you love.Hold tight." ( Beaver 202).
Reaction-
This quote really makes the reader feel pity for the narrator. It actually makes us the readers feel guilty that we may have not exactly spent quality time with the people we love.It makes us feel like we haven't done anything to close the gaps in out hearts. Beaver gives alot of advise, saying that we should keep close to the people that we love and it at least made me wonder what I should do to fufil his advise.

Summary-
As Cecily gets worse over the days, she is no longer able to breath without a ventalizor, which helps her breath oxygen equally. During those days they took an x-ray of her lungs, finding out that the cancer has not only spread through the lungs but then the cancer cells also got into her blood stream which will take over her whole body. The doctors estimated that she wouldnt live longer than two weeks, maybe even a couple of days. It all depended on how fast the cells grow. Mark couldn believe this, he wanted to so badly save her life that he ilegally made some tea that would help boost her immune system into her tube. But that didn't help, as the most tragic thing happened all through Jim Beaver's life. Cecily died on March 3 at 8:o5 a.m. Her husband was right there by her side seeing her died was the worse thing that every happened, saying that she peacefully died. A month goes on and Jim is still mourning over his wife, but begins to get rid of her things one thing at a time. After all that was done he wants to get a permit to throw Cecily's ashes in The "Red wood national forest".
Quote-
"It was only with the darkening that I could see how much light had once been there." (Beaver 148)
Reaction-
I think this quote is trying to tell us the readers, that when there is something that is bad happening to one of us or our family memebers, we don't see the light in anything but we see only the bad. The same with Beaver, and his wife. During the time he actually saw her die she looked like there was no light in her eyes, but when he reflected on it during the day , he actually realized that her eyes actually had light to them till they died. Also during her days of dieing he still described cancer as an elephant.

Life's that Way pg 47-133
Summary-
As the days go by and Cecliy is in the hospital, Maddie begins to have tantrums. She would jump up and down, for hours crying until she got her way. As Maddie gets worse, Beaver wants to take her to the hopital. A couple days later she was diagnosed with autism. As a result Maddie has to go to a therapist, every week. Trying to juggle both his wife and his daughter was begging to be very hard. So he began to take all the offers he gets from all his friends and family. So many people have offered to help that Beaver has a whole list of when one person will babysitt and when one will go to the hospital to see Cecily. News on Cecily has really been shocking in these past chapters. She has gone through a couple chemo therapy and some radiations. She was begging to get really tired sleeping most of the day, and she stopped radiation and chemo for a while, but the doctor gave her morphine which helped reduce the pain, it was said that it would also kill the cancer cells. So as a result of the morphine, Cecily begins to loose her memory. So after a couple of days with morphine they go back to her regular chemo and radiation. But after a couple weeks back on her chemo, they tested to see if the cancer cells have somewhat declined, but they Doctor reports that they were slightely up but not too much so he was actually encouraged that they were not drastically changing in a bad way. But soon after the examination Cecily begins to have severe stomach and back pain. So Beaver took her to the hospital and soon after they find out that she has severe gastric. Which is totally worse then what was expected. So then a day later they also found out that she had pnemonia. Still in pain Cecily is still hospitilized.
Quote-
"They day after, we fight. And if this disease plans on whipping us, it better bring a launch,'cause it's going to have a long day doing it." ( Beaver 55).
Reaction-
This quote, tremendously shows how strong that this family will be. It shows that they are willing to fight and do whatever it takes to oversome this disease. It also shows how supportive Beaver is and how he wants his wife to really heal soon. In the novel it also describes cancer as being several types of animals like an animal, For example one that I found was interesting would be when they describes cancer as an elephant. I think it is really ironic because an elephant is known as an animal that would disrupt anything in its way, and that is exaclty what the cancer cells are doing to Cecily's body, distrupting everything in its way.

Life's that way by Jim Beaver page 3-46
Summary-
In the autobioagraphy "Life's That Way." the narrator talks about a period of his time that really showed him what the meaning of what like was. Jim Beaver, an actor and his stunning wife, Cecily Adams, an actress have lived a happy life, untill everything went down the drain. This perfect couple begins to discovers many shocking news. During the month of October Jim hears frightening news that no one would every want to hear. Cecily has had severe back pain for a couple months but this months she had to be carried to hospital, so the doctors quickly took her to the emergency room and began to test her, taking her blood doing MRI's, CAT scans, X-rays anything possible untill they would find what is triggering her pain. Result are back, bracing themselves for the possible outcome, the doctors explains to Cecily that she has an advanced case of lung cancer, this cancer spread through the pelvis, lower spine and her sternum. Finding this out Cecily has to stay hopsitlized till further testing. After a month in the hospital, it was time for the her first treatment of radiation and kemo therapy, the first reaction wasn't very good so she wasn't able to go, untill her second radiation appointment was, staying hopsitalized in the hospital for another months she goes home happy. Cecily begins to feel her body fighting the cancer, she believes that she can overcome anything, she believes that she can do it for her daughter. Cecily feels better, but doesn't have the complete energy it takes to walk a mile. She begins her radiation, and it seems that her health is improving. As the days go by, the narrator writes to his friends and family about his wife, everyone begins to offer their time for the sake of his wife sending hoe cooked meals, baby sitting Maddie and taking Cecily to her therapy.
Quote-
" There's a peculiar thing that happens to a man's pride when he realizes he can't do anything, and that realization usually comes just at the moment when he feels he ought to do everything"(Beaver24).
Reaction-
As the narrator says this quote I realize that it is powerfully stating a sterotype, that people have for man. In the worold it is said that man are the providers , man are the strong ones. In this situation the narratpr feels that he is helpless, that he can't help his wife, and that just brings him to shame. Even though he is the man he shouldn't have to do anything, just being there with his wife can mean the world for her. Another connection I had to this quote, is the fact that this shows a surface look of how the patient feels about its own situation. They might want to have held there son when he was coughing at night or there daughter when she did her science projects on mold. Many feel that they are hopless that they have failed as parents and it shows the hardships of cancer.
